Our aim 
Our aim is to educate personnel and technicians in beauty salons on how to prevent Blepharitis.

What is Blepharitis? Who is at risk of developing this condition? Why and how do we prevent and treat it?

Blepharitis is an eye infection of the eyelid, and eyelash follicles and occurs in at least 33-50% of the adult population. Eyelash extensions and mascara Lash Extender have a definite association (cause) with Blepharitis. This condition causes scratchy, red and teary eyes. People with extensions think that If they don't touch the false lashes and eyelids and wet them, or wash them, they will last longer"....Wrong!!!...It’s quite the opposite. Your clients should be washing their eyes with a gentle, hypoallergenic, soapy and water based cleanser containing a natural antiseptic like tea tree oil at least 2-3 times a week.. Blepharitis can be passed on from client to client so the best thing for you as a technician is to , inform your clients of these things and educate them on how to look after their lashes and this includes washing them 3 times weekly.

You don't need to be reminded to adhere to proper hygiene practices in your salon and to always sanitize your tweezers and equipment after each client. It’s a good habit to get into using disposable tools as much as possible to avoid cross contamination, using a new drop of glue for every client and a fresh clean set of tweezers for each client is also a great practice to get into.

By using Chrissanthie LID CLEANSER and applying the following method, for all your clients before you do the eyelash extensions, and after….. You can prevent Blepharitis!!!!!

The treatment we offer to prevent Blepharitis is as follows:
• Use Chrissanthie Eyelid cleanser which is gentle, hypoallergenic and professionally 
o developed by pharmacist and an ophthalmologist
• Chrissanthie Eyelid Cleanser contains a natural mite-eradicating solution of tea tree oil
• Soak cotton wool pads or gauze swabs in hot water and add a pea sized amount of 
o Chrissanthie Eyelid Cleanser
• Hold over closed eyes for one minute then rub from the inner to the outer corner of eyelids (upper and 
o Lower lids) as though you are removing eye make-up.
• Then rub eyebrows too.
• Rinse eyes with other side of pad / gauze swab.
• Repeat daily for a month, then twice weekly or as necessary.

Many Local and overseas distributors/ salons came on board at the conference and they were amazed to hear about Blepharitis, If your distributors isn’t on board yet, advise them about stocking Chrissanthie lid cleanser , according to some client responses , Chrissanthie Lid Cleanser is been long overdue, in the eye lash industry. Sometimes when carrying out eyelash extensions, the glue turns white, this is called 'blooming'. When the glue becomes too wet from a sudden onset of tears or water, the whiteness will appear. This will disappear in a few days but the best thing to do is to place a little black sealant on the lashes so lashes look complete.

]]><![CDATA[New EU Cosmetic Legislation - Eyelash Extension Products]]>Mon, 12 Aug 2013 13:05:30 GMThttp://www.lashologist.co.uk/blog/new-eu-cosmetic-legislation-eyelash-extension-productsFor Professionals and Therapists who purchase  skin and body care products for retail purposes and professional treatments from a reputable UK or EU supplier who is fully complying with the new EU cosmetic regulations then you should be covered under your  membership insurance  (subject to all T&C's of the policy being complied with).  If obtaining products from outside the EU   i.e. China or Korea and they were compliant with the new EU regulations, it would still be acceptable. This advice would also apply to the glue that one would use in the course of a lash extension treatment.

It is up to the  therapists  to check with their supplier that the products they are purchasing  comply with the new Law.  UK Distributors of  Eyelash Adhesive, must check that the manufacturer in Asia is complying with the New Regulations.  Please seek advise from your Insurer if you are not sure.

New Cosmetics Regulation

From July 2013 a new EU regulation (number 1223/2009) replaces the previous Cosmetics Directive in order to ensure that consumers’ health is protected by monitoring the labelling and composition of cosmetic products. But what does this all mean and where does it leave you as a therapist?

The new regulation, designed to protect consumers, places responsibilities on the manufacturers and suppliers of cosmetic products which are available commercially. The regulation will monitor a few different areas of the manufacturing process including labelling, the use of restricted substances, safety testing and reports, notifying relevant authorities and traceability. Many products are likely to be affected including, but not limited to, spray tanning solution, skincare products and aromatherapy oils.

If you currently supply or make your own cosmetic products, you would need to be able to follow this regulation. This would involve you, as the person responsible for your cosmetic product, acquiring a valid and approved toxicology assessment for your products if you want to sell them anywhere within the EU, as well as labelling the products appropriately. 

The regulation also bans the use of animal testing for not only finished product but also every single ingredient involved in the making of the product, citing that the act of testing on animals must be replaced by alternative methods.

We advise therapists check with their supplier if they are unsure as to whether they are fully complying with the new regulations.

The regulations apply to all cosmetic products that are made available on the EU Market after 11 July 2013. The draft regulations create enforcement powers, offences and penalties within the UK, as required by the EU regulation.

The offences, penalties and enforcement provisions of these draft regulations are broadly similar to Cosmetic Products (Safety) Regulations 2008, which they replace, and the Consumer Protection Act 1987. However, it has been necessary to expand the offences and penalties to reflect the slightly broader scope of the offences in the EU regulation.

The adhesives don't dry they cure. The reason for telling a client that they would need to wait 24 hours before getting their lashes wet is because it takes that long for the cyanoacrylate in the adhesive to pull enough moisture out of the air to cure properly. 

Using a nebulizer  will cure lashes completely and then lashes  can wash be washed immediately. This is  helpful for clients who have irritation or burning from the fumes.
